19 schools battled it out on 2nd March to become the DELTA games champions 2017!
DELTA Academies from across Yorkshire and beyond battled it out to earn the right to become the DELTA Games Champions. Over 200 young people from 19 schools converged on the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield for the DELTA games indoor athletics championships.
After a full day of track and field events Vale Academy (North Lincs) won overall in the U13 & U15 age groups and the primary event was won by Green Lane Academy (Garforth). Manor Croft were runners up in both the U13 & U15 competition, missing out on gold by a few points in each age group. It was the first time that teams from MCA had competed in the event and we really pushed the eventual winners right to the final event.
There were a few stand out performances on the day, the U15 boys won the team gold, with Stan (long jump) and Callum (shot putt) picking up individual golds in their events. Silver medals went to Ben (triple jump), Luke (60m) and the 4x200m relay team of Luke, Arian, Stan and Callum. The U15 girls got a silver medal with Amy in the shot putt. The U13 teams both won team silver and individual silver medals went to Lydia (triple jump), Lily-Mai (shot putt), Taylor (shot putt), Alex (long jump) and the girls 4x200 team of Lucy-Mae, Alice, Courtney and Lydia. The U13 team weren’t done there however; individual golds were also awarded to Lucy-Mae (long jump and 60m), Josh (triple jump) and the 4x200m team of Josh, Ethan, Brad, and Taylor.
It was a fantastic day of athletics and the students really did the academy proud, we’ll be going for team gold next year!
