  • More Able Students Seminar

    On Wednesday 2nd December Mr Walton, Miss Dodds and Mr Barnett held a seminar for the More Able Students from Year 11.  There was a great attendance and lots of positive work was discussed.  The session represents part of our academy's strategy to support these students in the pursuit of excellence in their GCSEs.  Work on practical tips for success, revision, being aspirational and post-16 options was carried out (whilst enjoying some pizza!).     The Year 11 rugby team are through to the Champion Schools Yorkshire Semi Final and also the Champion Schools National Cup.  Beating Kettlethorpe 56 - 1.

  • Post 16 Event

    25th November 2015

    On Wednesday 25th November the Academy hosted it's annual Post 16 Event in the main hall. Around 20 representatives from the Post 16 education sector, such as Sixth Form Colleges, Apprenticeship providers, local and national employers, were present to discuss with students of all ages about their aspirations when they leave school. The event was primarily for students in Years 10 and 11, but was open to younger students in the Academy after school hours.  It was a great success and, speaking to a number of

  • Year 8 Rugby Success!

    The Year 8 students won their fixture in the Yorkshire Champion Schools 2nd Round, beating Woodkirk 52 points to 8!  They will now play St Wilfred's in the Yorkshire Champion Schools quarter finals.  Well done!

  • Enrichment Day 1

    On Friday 6th November Manor Croft Academy ran a full Enrichment Day for all students focusing on aspects of British Values and SMSC.  The day was a great success and visiting providers were very complimentary about how well the students worked.

  • Leisure and Tourism Trip

    22nd October 2015

    Year 11 students participated in a very successful Leisure and Tourism trip organised by Miss Jones.  The students went to Thorpe Park Hotel in Garforth as part of their controlled assessment.

  • Parental Engagement Forum

    16th October 2015

    Parents and friends of Manor Croft attended the Parental Engagement Forum's first meeting on 15th October and it was a great success. Presentations and discussions on Teaching, Learning and Assessment as well as Behaviour, Attendance and Progress were extremely useful and lots of great ideas were brought to the table. The next meeting will be on Thursday 3rd December 2015 and the topic for discussion will be homework.

  • Well done Year 8 Rugby Team

    Congratulations to our Year 8 Rugby Team for an outstanding performance against Mirfield Free Grammar School winning 30 points to 10.  The match was an away game which took place on Tuesday 13 October 2015.

    Josh Pinder and Joe Summers (pictured here with rugby league legend, Jamie Peacock) are no strangers to our ‘roll of honour’ as they have already been featured in previous news reports for their rugby successes. Last term however, even we could not have imagined the amazing achievement of these boys. Both of them were selected to play in the England Under 15s Rugby League squad against Wales in August.   • The Future of Cooking.

    Many of our Year 11 catering students have finished their coursework and have completed the final practical’s. This year’s students have been particularly talented with their creativity around meal construction and nutritionally balanced menus. Their commitment has not just been towards their exams, throughout the year they have created cakes and buns for charity and school events.   • Sporting Success at Manor Croft Academy

    Manor Croft Academy has a number of sports stars who may well be making it to the big time. Our Year 7 Rugby team managed to secure the ‘Dennis Trotter Memorial Trophy’ as they recorded five out of five wins in the recent Kirklees competition.

    Continuing with the rugby theme we have two students Year 10 students; Josh Pinder and Joe Summers who have both secured two year scholarships with Wakefield Wildcats. They have both been playing up an age group for the past season and have so far been undefeated.

  • School Election

    11th May 2015

    Running up to the General Election, Manor Croft Academy held it’s own Student election to see which main stream party would secure the post within our Academy. Three teams of students represented the three main parties of Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats. The students were tasked with examining each party’s education policy outlined in their manifesto and running a campaign that mirrored these views.

    On General Election day each student went to the Academy’s polling station to cast their vote

  • Exam Season Starts

    10th May 2015

    Good luck to all our Year 11 students who have started their exams. The commitment and preparation from staff and students has been outstanding. Revision sessions have been running for the past three months, with students attending in high numbers to school holiday programmes and Saturday morning sessions. Results come with hard work and this is something that is not lacking from within the Academy.  Good luck everyone!

  • Roller Disco Reward Event

    30th April 2015

    As part of the reward system at Manor Croft Academy, we reward those students who are engaged with their learning and who show great progress throughout the year.

    Term two’s reward was to hire in a Roller Disco for the day. Students had the chance to be taken off timetable to enjoy one hour with their Year Leader celebrating their success over the last three months. The day was a resounding success for staff and student relationships.

  • Year 6 Tea Party

    23rd April 2015

    Each year Manor Croft Academy invites the parents of new Year 7 starters to the school for a tea party. This year over 120 people attended, and a lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all. Students and Parents had the chance to meet key members of staff and have the opportunity to arrange specialised transition programmes in order to  help reduce anxieties for students and even more so parents.

    The 7th July is the official Transition Day for Kirklees. On this day our new Year 7 students will have the opportunity
