I attended a very inspiring and useful talk with a medical support from Oxford, this was important to me as I’m intrigued about medicine and the student explained a lot about her experience. The amount of passion and skills she had earned and how she persevered through hard work and going above and beyond – really encouraged a lot of the listeners to do more, such as doing extracurricular activities. The student doctor told us about how she would go to care homes and gain more information about dementia, not only this would give the listeners ideas on how they would express themselves doing extracurricular activities and the positive effects of putting effort into something like Oxford. She also explained the positive effects of being a student at Oxford for after the exams with annual balls. In addition with traditions, for example after matriculation they would perform ‘trashing’. I really am very grateful to be invited to this talk as it has encouraged me to aim for a university like Oxford. – Saffiyah 10P1.

I attended the talk with an Oxford student who talked about her experience in Oxford mentioning her benefits and her struggles and how she overcame them. She also talked about the structure of the university including the different colleges you can be a part of. This helped me as it gave me insight of the wonderful experiences of going to any university not just a prestigious one such as Oxford. I also learnt that going to a university in general might be overwhelming in the first couple of months but as you settle in, managing your workload should be a lot easier so to whoever is reading this, do not worry about being overwhelmed: it is normal and you will be able to cope. One last thing I learnt is that when you go to Oxford especially, apart from essays and practical work, there are still many enjoyable activities including fancy balls, after hours clubs, evening feasts and most important of all, new wonderful people you can call friends. This hour of interactive talking was extremely fun as we learnt various key points to help us out in our later life even after our university period. – Hashir 10P1.
