VE Day – 80th Anniversary

Dewsbury Town Hall opened its grand doors this morning to mark a momentous occasion: the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Local residents gathered for a special “Tea with the Mayor” event, honouring the sacrifices and resilience of the wartime generation.

Hosted by the Mayor of Kirklees, the event featured traditional afternoon tea served in the elegant surroundings of the Town Hall’s main hall. Guests included veterans, community leaders, schoolchildren, and families who came together to reflect on the historic significance of May 8, 1945 — the day World War II ended in Europe.

The Mayor addressed the attendees with a heartfelt speech, paying tribute to those who served and those who kept the home front strong.

As the community gathered to remember and celebrate, the event served as a reminder that the values of unity and resilience remain just as important today. Our Manor Croft Student Leaders were very proud to represent the school on this momentous occasion.
